Support Groups

There are groups of experts living near you who will gladly talk with you and answer your questions. It's true. The groups are called Parkinson's Support Groups. The benefits of the support groups are multiple. When a person is first diagnosed, fear of the unknown may set in. In a support group setting, a PWP can find the information needed to help clearly understand what lies ahead. In many cases, the reality is less frightening than what they may have imagined. In the support groups, tips are shared on how to deal with different situations that benefit everyone. You will find a wealth of first hand knowledge on everything from dealing with telling friends and family about the illness to working through the red tape of disability benefits. Simple tips on technology or "home remedies" that help the person with the illness are shared and often everyone learns something new. Information sharing is one of the key benefits of a support group.

You will also find groups that provide speech therapy, exercise classes and help for young and still working Parkinsonians.
